Pirate Faerie is the DJ persona of Melanie Dawn, inspired by her mystical, playful and spirited alter ego before it transformed into her name as a DJ.
Her sound intertwines mixes with organic house, afro house, indie dance, tech house, deep house, and house remixes of timeless hits from the 70s. Over the past three decades, Melanie didn’t just spend her time co-founding Living Fae, the Sunset Campout Faerie Ring, and grooving on the dancefloor with Anne Elizabeth. In the 90s, she entered the scene as a music editor and writer for indie rave culture magazines; she shattered norms producing and hosting an all-female house music radio show; took the reins as the music coordinator for a feature film; interned with a popular record label; and immersed herself in various aspects of production for both large and small art, music and transformational events.
